Cool Weird one for you -- Domain Registration Story

A lot of ppl look for me at VinDSL.com -- or so they say... So, I've been thinking about registering that domain name for, like, 3 years. It's always been available, so I figured there was no rush.

Well, about a month ago, I got a wild hair, and decided to go for it... only to find out someone had beat me to the punch, by about a month. Great! Not!

Turned out to be a scraper site...

I thought I might as well go ahead and register VinDSL.org or VinDSL.net, but I didn't like that idea... so, I just gave up on the whole thing -- ya snooze, ya lose -- you know?

Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was available last night?!?!

    I hopped on it!

Now, I'm wondering how someone registered a site for a couple of months. I've never seen a contract for less than a year.

All I can figure is one of those scraper companies threw it up there, for a month or two, to see how many hits it would get.

    Weird!

No idea. I've never seen a period less than 1 year either. The only thing I can think of would be a registration error where it was actually registered ~14 months (+x years ?) ago and it wasn't renewed. Perhaps a database was botched either at an ICANN server or the registrar you queried.

    Domain Grace period Thanks ICANN....

you know, as much as I hate the Federal government, I think it is time for the Feds to through some weight around and beat ICANN like a red headed step child.....

if you want more info, google "Add Grace period"

    domain: vindsl.com
    created: 29-Nov-2006
    last-changed: 30-Nov-2006
    registration-expiration: 29-Nov-2007

No historical records available. My guess is you mistyped first time round.

    <edit>

    Guess not.

Yes, that would be a plausible explanation, if it's true...

    Thanks for that link!

    Er...

Sorry, but that's an implausible explanation!

I pour over 1000's of lines of code daily. As you know, this is detail work, and I don't make many mistakes... and certainly nothing so silly as mistyping my own 'nick' (numerous times).

I couldn't believe this twist of fate! I checked, double-checked, triple-checked, running whois lookups, yada, yada, yada... I figured it was karmic!

If I remember correctly, the owner was in Tallinn, Estonia, of all places.

Anyway, all is well that ends well, yes?

    Do you mean "pore over"?

There are absolutely no historic data for vindsl.com anywhere, and judging by your markup you're just not aware of your mistakes. Not looking too implausible so far.

I'd hope your karma would be a little more ironic than that.
