    I wonder if IkonBoard stole the features from this board or vice-versa...

    BTW I am playing with the poll option here...

    If you have ever used the VB admin section you would drop your love of YaBB in a heart beat I garuantee it. There is nothing like it out there and it takes some time just to see all the features. Im still finding out things after a week.

    Yabb always took a while longer to load, didn't feel as smooth to me as VB does and it always added a load on all my browsers, even to the point to overloading them and crashing the browser, my system or just locking up the browser or system. I never liked Yabb, it was near impossible to load a page without it feeling like it was taking the life out of my computer. VB is fast, smooth and feels and looks good to me. I guess my experience with Yabb was just not a good one.

    Well you can only choose the best board depending on your budget. YaBB is by far the best free BB. I'm a mod-writer for YaBB, and there are so many cool new features on it now, than the YaBB 1 Gold version. Have you used BaordMod on your other YaBB board? if not why not?? You an even integrate a chatroom into yabb, extra user features, and loads of text options which arnt in vB. If you have the money, vB is the best on the market. Mainly because its been out so long. Version 2 of vB is out. YaBB is only one year old. You can't even marquee text in vB without turning on HTML code. My YaBB board : http://www.ffmeteor.f2s.com/cgi-binyabb/YaBB.pl has over 30 modifications over the origional script. Bar a calender my YaBB matchs vB anytime, and then some.

    Well, since I'm such a Perl fan over PHP, I'd prefer to program and work with Perl. However, I didn't want to modify the Yabb code and convince Jag that I should. I wouldn't have been able to commit that kind of time to it anyway. Since you're a mod-writer for Yabb, you wouldn't happen to have any scripts/tools to convert from VB to Yabb or visa-versa, would you? It'd save me a little time from creating it myself, although it shouldn't be that big of a deal to do, I'm just not sure if Yabb has all the fields to make it convert easily.

    I didn't want to add modifications. I am not a programmer. I just have some experience due to time being.
    I also liked VB's fast update if any security holes were found. not to mention the large community of support.

    Many people said with lots of modifications on ikonboard, yabb and others can be as good as Vb. Well, I guess I have to agree but you got to know that not many want to risk of adding modifications and maintain the board secure. (Especially when your board is suddenly not working, I needed support and I got the support. It was when my board was transfered to a new semi dedicated server. Jag knows about it.)

    nobody has really told me what is wrong or right with my board... that is what I asked for... I cannot afford vB, but IkonBoard looks very good, is in perl, and the only - is no calendar... but that is no big deal

    Yeah, I think Red is correct! Since I can't afford VB, YaBB for me is the best one! I've also added many mods, mods for the members, and mods for the admin which make my yabb alot better!

    Sorry, thats not true. If you go to the VB site you will find thousands of hacks including chat room integration, tons more user features, an of course text features as well as many not mentioned in the Yabb forums. VB, although exspensive is still open so everyone can hack and modify it as they see fit. When I get some time I will be sure to include many of those features here for you guys to see and use.

    Jag here is a little code that could help you add feilds to VB:
    Code:
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    # -------------------------------------------
    $ENV{'REQUEST_METHOD'} and (print "Content-type: text/plain\n\n");
    open (DB, "<whatever.db")     or print "Unable to open  database Reason: $!" and exit;
    open (DBOUT, ">whatever2.db") or print "Unable to open output database. Reason: $!" and exit;
    while (<DB>) {
        chomp;
        s/NULL//g;
        print DBOUT "$_|Extra Feild 1|Extra Feild 2|Extra Feild 3\n";
    }
    close DB;
    close DBOUT;
    print "Added 3 new fields onto the end. Saved it as whatever.db.";
    I got this from Links 2.0 but it should be able to work on VB. You will propably have to change the feild format a bit since Im not fimiliar with the DB on VB.
    Good Luck,
    Paul

    What field? If you are referring to the users profile fields there is already a user section in the admin panel that lets you add fields. Of course you can also add field to almost any of the VB screens as well.

    Oh I didn't know that. I thought you wanted to add feilds to your database before you could import the old posts.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    I wanna change my vote!! I'm not sure of a easy way to change from vB/iB to YaBB.. you should check out YaBB's downloads page or ask one of the admins/mods or post in the help forum @ yabb.xnull.com. I know vB is proberly the best Board, but for free YaBB is obviously the best! But I'm going to stay with YaBB, when version 2 is out (in a long while!) it will easily match vB
