    What happened to old posts

What the heck happened to all the posts made before this new board was installed. I like vBulletin but please import the old posts from Yabb, there were many useful ones.
    Thank you,
    Pawel Kowalski

There was and is no Yabb convertor for Vbulletin.

Jag had to give up on Yabb due to lack of support and problems.
I've been with Jag since 2001.

I've actually been trying to get time to finish up and test a script I'm creating, that will move all the old Yabb board posts to this one. I've just not had a lot of time due to support and other issues, but I'm hoping to get that done and tested by tomorrow. Of course, there might not be the correct fields to import, but I might be able to modify the other posts to have those fields. We'll see. I'll try and get them converted and imported into this one for everyone.

Hope that will work and I wish you luck. Wasn't there a script the imports this from Yabb, or maybe I just saw Yabb importing to vBulletin.

    Thanks,

    that isn't entirely true klisis...
they think perl sucks as far as i can tell
    vB is MySQL driven too...
ALSO, I wasn't adding features fast enough...
When YaBB 2 comes out, (PHP or Perl, flat text OR MySQL) vB will have a contender, and YaBB will win, because it is free, and it will be better...

    Remember "Free" doesn't always work.

Anyway, why do people have to go arguing when it comes to VB?
    Anti-vb people?
I've been with Jag since 2001.

vB ain't free... that is why I don't like it... I can't afford it anyway, YaBB is very good, and I recently discovered how cool IkonBoard is, so I think that free boards are better, now I must find the best free one...

Yep, I would love VB if I could have the money for it. When the new version off Yabb comes out it will blow VB away. Also I head Ikonboard (which I used a long time ago, but then discovered Yabb) will also be better than VB when the full version of IB3 comes out. That is why VB will have to offer a free version or overpack it with features no other board has. Also Matt, I went to your site and found that you are a very good programmer. Thanks for that template PHP script I will find it very useful when I redesign my entire site. Am I correct that this is free to use?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    thanks!

yes, it is free to use

if you want any help with it, let me know, I haven't really documented it very well

BTW, none of those handlers have really worked yet... in theory they should, but it doesn't seem to work...

Well I don't know much about PHP, Im more of a Perl guy, but it seems simple enough to set up. I will also try to modify it if you don't mind, and use a database structure and an admin interface. I could then give you the code and you could post it on your site. Is that allrigh with you. Maybe you could also help me as I said Im not good with PHP.
    Thanks,
    Paul

I doubt YaBB will ever get ahead of VB and this is why. YaBB is open source and yes developers can work on it and write their own codes at will but....VB is backed by serious $$$ and so developers are eager to add features and make it the best not to mention the source is still open and you could modify it however you wanted. In fact the VB community has thousands of hacks and addons for VB that we do not have in use here. Entire sites are now being built around VB and I have never seen that done by YaBB users. As for perl or php, both are great and both have their strong points. Mysql versus flat text well theres no doubt that mysql can retreive data faster and in my opinion the data is a lot easier to "dig" through when you want to change something.

    OK...

hotweb: that is an old version of the driver, I am going to upload a new one in about 30 mins, along with the handlers, which work I guess (according to my code they do now )

Jag: but you have to pay to obtain the code in the first place. I have seen a couple of sites built around YaBB, but many people don't use it because it is relatively difficult to set up... and many people think that you have to pay to get good software (where would Linux be without free software?)
