Ok, don't laugh about the basics

Recently, a friend designed my website. She burned the site onto a CD and told me that I should have the company hosting my domain name upload this site. Well, I am not sure how to send them the website from CD without distorting the content. For example, I emailed the files from the CD to myself via email. However, when I tried to open the files, I couldn't read my hyperlinks nor would they function if I arbitrarily clicked one of them.

Anyway, I know this is probably pretty hilarious to read for some of you. I am sure there's a very simple solution. I just don't know what to do. Please advise. Thanks.

Save all the files to a folder on your computer. Then download an FTP program. Once you do that, connect to your site. Browse to a directory called public_html. Once you do that, you are finished. Do not e-mail yourself the files, simply copy them from the cd to the hard drive, keeping all the subfolders intact. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Go to FTP Planet to find out how to use an FTP program.

Now transfer all files and folders from you hard drive to that folder public_html.

I don't think you have to copy all to your hard drive first. I think you can just move them directly from the CD to your site.

The key is keeping the subfolders intact: you should move the folders and their contents from CD (or hard drive) as a whole, NOT open them and copy them file by file.
