That should be your home dir. Part of this jail is you cant break out of your own home dir. If you do "cd /" it should put you at /home/your_username/

Also new changes taking place now, those commands are disabled for users..or should be. But if you do manage to view processed, you will only be able to view your own.

    Greg, unstandable,

Question, what about .profiles or alais's?

    How can we use them?

    Thanks

Then, something's not working fine with the server..

    jailshell-2.05a$ pwd
    /
    jailshell-2.05a$ ls
bin dev etc home lib proc tmp usr var
    jailshell-2.05a$
    jailshell-2.05a$ cd ~
    jailshell-2.05a$ pwd
    /home/laneros
Also, I can see all the process running on the machine.

Ahhhhh, no mySQL functionality in jailshell!

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

I hope this is just an error, and not permanent.

I've reported this to support. I hope they fix that problem very soon. I need mysql access to backup my databases.

Well then Xenon is misconfigured. When I SSH in, I am deposited in the root of the server. Two levels above my home directory. Whoami shows that I am myself, but my .profile isn't being run upon login.

To PARTIALLY get around these issues, type the following:

    1) bash
    2) cd ~
    3) . ~/.profile

I am extremely upset and yet another lockdown of functionality that I have used for years. No MySQL commands? No, direct access via shell to httpd access and error logs? No who, no ps. No nothing.

I can't get off of Aletia fast enough. No seriously, without mysqldump and this constant downtime, I truly can't get off fast enough.

I suspect that error is due to users not having any permissions to /home/var/mysql (pointed at by /var/lib/mysql). When I try to run either mysql or a perl script that connects to mysql from shell I get that error, but php pages and cron jobs with those same perl scripts execute just fine, as they likely run as nobody.

So I'm betting it's a temporary error as they work out the kinks of jailshell.

I am not trying to insult you, are you sure you have the command correct.

As for who and ps, that is for security reasons and there should be not reason for us to use it.

I agree about .profile not working and not very helpful.

Let's wait until they tell us all is done and then we can check for issues/problems.

couple note, its possible not all users were jailed yet. We do have a lot of servers and a ton of users.

Second note, the mysql thing is a temp issue we will resolve shortly. Wish I could tell you more, but Im no tech and wouldnt honestly know where to go to fix that...besides someones gotta manage this operation .

These initial frustrations, while annoying, are nothing compared to the vast benefit in security that is gained. You pay us to secure your business, sites, and operations. We're doing everything we can to balance that with usability, thus my order to give users shell again, but with limitations imposed now.

I would hope everyone prefers this over having their sites defaced with more anti-war slogans with url redirects to masterbation sites.

    Jailshell --> .bash_profile, aliases

I haven't checked out what works or doesn't yet vis a vis SSH but I don't like my many aliases to be missing or the PS1 prompt.

    This fixes that problem:

    . ~/.bash_profile

Why can't JAG add that line to the initial command(s) for their jailshell?

    BC

PS On Mercury I'm also being dumped into root instead of my home directory --- NBD but they ought to fix that when they get a chance.

What do you mean by aliases?

I have .profile in my /home/username dir and when it contained shortcuts keys instead of typing the whole command I would only have to type one or two keys, that file is not working under jailshell or is not being read.

    IE. alias ll='ls -ralt'

plus the colors scheme when listing dirs and certain files is gone, that is not a big deal though.

    Thanks Greg

Everyone has there own "shortcuts" / alaises.
